Manuscript description
The folios f.305a-f.312b contain the text of a letter from al-Ashraf Barsbāy to Mīr Shahrukh the Son of Taymūr. Vocalized Manuscript. Completion of the main text in the margins. f.1a Contains several prayers and a poetry verse attributed to a certain Abū al-Suʿūd. Clean margins. F.2a has a waqf statement of the book which states that it must be kept in al-Madrasah al-Ta(?)nshābā in the desert. He also states that the book should not leave the library except in exchange of monetary guarantee (16 Dhu al-Qiʿda of the year ??). ‘the following names witnessed this statement: al-Sharīf Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī; ʿAbd al-Razzāq b. Aḥmad al-Baql?; Muḥammad Ḥasan al-Makkī? (f.2a). The folios f.1b and f.2a have ornate frontispieces executed in black and gold which have the book’s name written and divided between the two upper cartouches, and ex-libris of al-Ashraf Qaytbāy’s library divided between two polylobed shapes and a prayer for the partisans of the Sultan on the lower cartouches (i.e. Aʿazza allāhu anṣāarah). The words on the folio f.2b are not quite clear due to the ink of the frontispiece on f.2a. There are two numbering systems on the folios, one in ink and one (rather wrong) in pencil. both in Arabic numbers The first folio has the date: 24 January 1873 written in Latin.
