Manuscript description
Volume one in a set of two (in fact not originally related) manuscripts filed under the call number Jūghrāfiyā 430. Clear orthography, but later parts of the manuscript are more sloppily executed. Generally in a good state, but some pages have had corners or larger parts ripped off. Several correction notes and comments in the margins. A note on 102b comments about the death of Imam Husayn.
- Ownership Statement
The title page bears several ownership notes: one by a certain Tāj al-Dīn, another one effaced, and another one by Aḥmad al-Qādirī. The title page also bears a seal with the name Muḥammad, likely belonging to the same Muḥammad Bek [Abu al-Dhahab] who bequeathed (waqaf) the manuscript to ''his mosque'' (built in 1774 and still standing in Cairo). A tughra-like note on the title page likely refers to the same person. The waqf statement is repeated several times throughout the manuscript. A note on 1a informs of the manuscript being transferred from that mosque to the Khedival library in 1881 where it was first filed under the class mark Tārīkh 537, which was later changed to the present class mark, the first of four manuscripts of the Khiṭaṭ filed under the class mark Jūghrafiya 430-432.
