Manuscript description
Info obtained from the Library of Fatih catalog, the Sulaymaniyya's database (on-site), and a digitized colored copy of the manuscript. The folio f.1a has an illuminated rectangular panel executed in gold, blue, brown, and red which has an upper cartouche that contains the title of the book, and a central medallion (surrounded by four small medallions and four small flowers) that contains the author’s name. There is a golden medallion next to the upper left side of the rectangular panel. Clean margins. Sometimes the main text is completed in the margins. Several, yet not very extensive, correction notes. The call number 4503 is written on Indo-Arabic numbers on f.1a. The copyist reproduced many passages which he found it in the author’s draft about Women’s labor, treating the head (cooling it down), why the teachers are not widely respected, the prohibition of begging, the meaning of laylat al-Qadr, advice for fasting, a prayer which people should say when they see the crescent, comment about how two verses of Layla al-Ikhlīliyya should be read, a hadith which suggest that the end of time would happen after the people starts to (over)decorate the mosques, the history of al-Ifrinjah, a story from the riḥla of Ibn Jubayr about the fate of the son of the king of Constantinople after the death of the latter, and the story of his cousin who professed Islam in order to marry the late king's daughter (as he could not marry his cousin according to the Cristian customs), and how a woman during her pregnancy would figure out whether the expected child is a boy or a girl. The ink on the dark brown papers is mostly illegible.
