Manuscript description
A long poem (3 folio’s) near the end of the manuscript is written in red and black ink alternating per line. The original title page is missing, but its shape can be inferred from the imprint it has left on the first extant page (likely originally f.2a) as consisting of a top cartouche with an internal oval and below that a central circle. The first pages contain very extensive nastaʿlīq commentary and lexical notes, which pops up here and there again later in the manuscript. There are some correction notes throughout as well as some “maṭlab” notes announcing contents. The chessboard layout is found on f.166b and the Uyghur alphabet on f.171a. The colophon dates the manuscript to the start of Rabīʿ I of 841/early September 1437. This very same date is also found on a later copy of this text dated to the 1060s/1650s (Dār al-Kutub Tārīkh Musṭafā Fāḍil 67) which may have been copied from this manuscript.
- Ownership Statement
An ownership note on 181a from the year 869/1464-5 contains the names Aḥmad al-Ḥanafī and Qāsim b. […]. 181b also contains an effaced consultation note. There are stamps of the Dār al-Kutub on folio’s f.1b, f.2a, f.180b and f.181a.
