Manuscript description
Naskh. Black ink with extensive red rubrication and overlining. Red dots and inverted commas to mark poetry and sajʿ. Writing surface: 155x110mm. Clean copy- very few correction notes. Continuation of the main text in the margins, and many marginal announcements of contents (in many times a commentor writes the moral value of the story under the story's name). The first 226 papers are not watermarked papers while the rest of the manuscript are watermarked European Papers (with different handwriting). The commentor says at (f.49a) that part of this page is not from the original work and has been added by the copyists. There is a poetry by a certain Rajab in an empty paper before the title page. There is one sentence of a fiqhi ruling (in an empty page at the end of the work) which says that "it is permisseble to dig the graves of the unbelievers to take their money" citing certain book "Khazānat al-Fatāwā". There are citations from the books of "Sukurdān al-Sulṭān" and "Qawāʿid al-Zarakashī" about the various measures of distance (f.235b). There are poetry by al-Shāfiʿī and Shihā b al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Ḥaq (about the importance of knowledge) (f.235a) and there is a poetry (f.1a) which broadly says that ignorance is bless (عش بهيما تعش سليما فالسعد في طالع البهائم). Two unclear Ownership seals (f1a, f234b). There is an added part at the end of the work (f.233a-f.235a) which the copyist says he found it in the original manuscript, describe a mufākhara between pomegranate seeds and rice on a table before they got eaten.
The manuscript was copied in al-Maḥalla in Egypt in 996 AH. Ownership seal of Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Bāqī (f.1a). Binding: Crimson leather with a flap tucked under the upper cover and a turanj. Levini Warneri Collection (Ex Legato Viri Ampliff. Levini Warneri). There is a torn-out European blue seal on f.1a.
