Manuscript description
The folio f.1a has a golden frame contain poetry of ÷bn al-muʿtaz and al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī al-Marūrūrī (which probably were added later). Several wiped-out text on f.1a. The folio f.1b has an illuminated headpiece surmounted by a decorative band executed in gold, blue, pink, and light blue decorated by flowers and the title “Tīmūr Nāmeh ʿArabshāh”. Several linguistic comments throughout the manuscript, and sometimes the commenter translates words to Farsi (or Ottoman Turkish?). The title is written on an added (not numbered) paper at the start of the book by pen. The manuscript starts with unnumbered folio, followed by 3 folios which are numbered till f.3, followed by unnumbered empty folio, then f.4, then the folios of the manuscript are renumbered starting from the title page. The first folios are written on watermarked European papers which has been added later, while the renumbered folios are probably written on oriental papers. There is an index of the topics of the manuscript on f.1bis (a)-f.3bis (b) written within a golden frame divided into small squares. The copyist kept the visiualization of the Uygur letters and the chess board (which in are omitted in some manuscripts). The folios f.4abis-f.4bbis has several poetry verses. One of whom is introduced by the following text:
فما امتدح به مؤرخا و مادحا مالك هذا الكتاب صاحب السيادة و السعادة الحاج محمد أفندي العريف؟ بسليمان أفندي زاده الموقوفاتي حين عمر القصر و السلسبيل المعمورين باليمن و السعاده بقاعي زاده احمد أفندي الشامي و هما هناك.
The poetry following this introduction gives references to the building dates of “ Salsabīl Muḥammad” (i.e. 1133 AH) and the palace (i.e. 1132 AH).
