Manuscript description
It seems like it contains the complete work! Papers are slightly trimmed. Inconsistencies in numbering the folios as sometimes the numbers are written in Indo-Arabic numbers, and in others in Arabic numbers. Completion of the sentences of the main text in the margins. The folio f.1a has a short biography of the author. Marginal notes are written in red, black (and also green and blue at the beginning of the manuscript. There are numbers written next to the paragraphs to count something. Not sure exactly what they are counting exactly, but they have been added up (on f.1a) under the header “ ʿadad (…) fi-l-tarājim” and the total number is 3785. Very extensive use of the margins contain: Several and consistent commentary notes which relates to the commenter’s own time, and consistent announcements of the names\topics discussed in the main text. There is a note on f.840b in which the commenter (i.e. al-ʿAbd al-Muṣṭafā Muḥib al-Dīn) mentions his grandfather Ismāʿīl b. Ibrāhīm b. (al-farnaq?) Nāẓir Dīwān al-Niyāba (among many other positions he held), and the places in which he served. Reading note of al-ʿAbd al-Muṣṭafā Muḥib al-Dīn in 1020 AH (f.893a).
- Ownership Statement
There is poetry dedicated to the owner of this manuscript who was referred to “al-manjakī al-Yūsufī al-ʿĀḍid” written by al-Ḥasan al-Bīrūn (or al-Bīrūz?) (Ṣāḥib dars al-tafsīr bi-Dimashq fī al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr) (on an unnumbered flyleaf on the beginning of the manuscript). There is also an ex-libris inscription of al-Amīr Manjak followed by two poetic verses dedicated to him written by al-ʿAbd al-Muṣṭafā Muḥib al-Dīn (f.1a). TKSM stamp on f.1a and on an added flyleaf at the beginning of the work. Old TKSM (in Arabic) stamp on an added flyleaf at the beginning of the work.
- Colophon
No colophon, but there is a note on f.1a which says that this is the handwriting of the judge Akmal Muḥammad b. Mufliḥ al-Shāfiʿī who died in 1010 AH.
