Manuscript description
Incomplete. Starts with Darb al-Shamsi and Darb Kurkāmah Ends with Qanṭarat al-Mūskī. Written on an already used folios which have old titles written vertically and horizontally, and the text of the book is written around them. Starts with the title “al-Juzʾ al-Awwal min al-Mawāʿiẓ”. Naskh script. Black ink with red and blue rubrication and overlining . Red and blue dots around poetry hemistichs. Oriental Papers. Writing Surface 140x100 mm. Extensive use of the margins contain: Several and consistent commentary notes which relates to the commenter’s own time, and announcements of the topics discussed in the main text. Sometimes, the sentences in the main text are completed in the margins. Inconsistent use of catchwords.
Several European watermarked papers are attached at the beginning of the codex (probably the plan was to complete the work on them) . Writing is inconsistent as the book was clearly meant for personal use. Several of the old titles are dedications/ex libris inscriptions (over several folios) (e.g “al-ʿĀlī al-Mawlawī al-Sulṭānī al-Malakī al-Ẓāhirī al-Mufīdī al-Farīdī al-Muḥaqqiqī al-Aṣīlī al-ʿArīqī”). And the names Ibn al-Zuhrī and al-Khazrajī, appear in later parts. Several pieces of papers are attached between the folios. The added folios contain Old and new TSMK stamp ( E. hazine on the new stamp), and the title of the book and the volume number (i.e. V.1). No colophon. Binding: Brown leather and a piece of silk is glued to it, and an envelope flap. The inside of the cover is grey paper, which is the first flyleaf as well.
