Minṭāsh, however, when he heard the report, rode with a number of his friends to al-Nāṣirī and, taking up again the question of sparing al-malik al-Ẓāhir’s life, made him fear the consequences of doing so; finally al-Nāṣirī was persuaded by them to agree that the sultan should be put to death after he should have arrived at al-Karak and been imprisoned there. He offered as a reason for delay the fact that, because of the unsettled condition of public affairs, he had not yet distributed fiefs and offices, and that, since there were many who secretly favored al-Ẓāhir, some of them might rebel if the sultan were murdered now, while, on the other hand, his death was something that might be effected at any time. Finally they left him and went home
