When the sultan returned from Damascus, as the people of Cairo had many Nawrūzīya and Bunduqīya dirhams-as already mentioned-, he started to mint Muʾayyadīya dirhams.
This month Ṣafar started: the news was spread that the sultan had melted many Nāṣirī dinars to make Muʾayyadī dinars and the people stopped to take the Naṣirī dinars until Friday the 23th of Ṣafar. The sultan summoned the quḍāt al-quḍāt and the important money changers before him in the stables of the citadels and the invalidity of the Nāsirī dinars was announced. Qāḍī al-quḍāt Jalāl al-Dīn b. al-Bulqīni mentioned him that this would mean great harm to the possessions and the sultan did not like this and refused the inspection of the money.
