When the situation worsened, Jalāl al-Dīn Abu l-Faḍl ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Bulqīnī, qāḍī al-quḍāṭ and shaykh al-ʾislām, left his house to pray for rain with the people, and with him left scholars, who were only counted by their Creator -He is mighty and sublime-. He went from his house, on foot, with amir al-Tāj until they left through the Bāb al-Naṣr to the graves. The tongues were set free with all their evil to talk about the correctness of al-Tāj, and it did not take long before they started to threw stones at him, so he hid himself and the Shaykh al-ʾIslām went with the people to the foot of the mountain, near Qubbat al-Naṣr and they shouted and invoked God- He is mighty and sublime-. They stayed there more or less one hour, then they left and there was one of the greatest meetings and there was bread until Saturday the 24th, then it became scarce again. The reason for this is that al-Tāj kept everyone who brought wheat from selling it to the millers, and the price for one ʾirdabb was 350 dirham. If it was milled and sold as flour, it cost 600 dirham and more, and if it was kneaded to bread, it cost 800 dirham and more. And the people, except the millers, stopped buying wheat and their demand for flour and bread multiplied and the heating of the ovens augmented because there was no bread on the markets.
