821 AH, 25/08:
The sultan renounced to his journey to the Ḥijāz and wrote to the armies of Syria to travel to Aleppo and proceeded to the preparation of the stay. On Thursday, 26/08 the amirs, the caliph and the quḍāt al-quḍāt had been gathered and Shaykh al-ʾIslām Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīni had been asked, and stories were told about Qarā Yūsuf and about what the fear and the terror he had caused to the people of Aleppo, and to the people of Hama, that the price of a donkey had reached 500 silver dirham and that of a mule 50 dinar, that Qarā Yūsuf had 40 wives and that he did not profess the Islam and a draft of a fatwa was written in the majlis in which many of his reprehensible deeds figured and that he had attacked the frontiers of the Muslims, and other things. Shaykh al-ʾIslām Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī and the quḍāt al-quḍāt wrote that it was legal to fight him and the caliph added his signatures. They left and with them was amir Muqbil the dawādār and announced to the people of Cairo, in presence of the caliph and the shaykh al-ʾislām and the four chief judges, that it was deemed legitimate to spill the blood of Qarā Yūsuf and to capture his women and to destroy his lands. The jihād against him is for all of you with your possessions and your persons. When the people heard this, their unrest augmented. It was written to the governors of Syria to make the same announcement in every city and that the sultan himself would come with his armies and a message was written to al-Wajh al-Qiblī to summon the amirs back.
