وفي يوم الخميس سابع عشره: نزل السلطان إلى جامعه بجوار باب زويلة، واستدعى شيخ الإسلام
قاضي القضاة جلال الدين البلقيني، فارتجت القاهرة، وخرج الناس من الرجال والنساء على اختلاف
طبقاتهم لرؤيته، فرحاً به، حتى غصت الشوارع، فعندما رآه السلطان، قام له وأجله، وبالغ في إكرامه
وأفاض عليه التشريف، وشافهه بولاية القضاة، وتوجه جلال الدين البلقيني من الجامع إلى المدرسة
الصالحية، فمر من تحت الربع، وعبر من باب زويلة، وسلك تحت شبابيك الجامع، وقد قام السلطان في
الشباك ليراه، فأبصر من كثرة الخلق، وشدة فرحهم، وعظيم ما بذلوه، وسمحوا به من الزعفران
للخلوق، والشموع للوقود، مع مجامر العود والعنبر، ورش ماء الورد، وضجيجهم بالدعاء للسلطان، ما
أذهله، وقوي رغبته فيه، وسار كذلك حتى أن بغلته لا تكاد أن تجد موضعاً لحوافرها، حتى نزل
بالمدرسة الصالحية، ومعه أهل الدولة عن آخرهم، لم توجه إلى داره، فكان يوماً مشهوداً، واجتماعاً لم
يعهد لقاض، مثله.

The sultan went to his mosque, near the Bāb al-Zuwayla and summoned shaykh al-ʾislām, qāḍī al-quḍāt Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī, and Cairo expected him and the people, men and women from different social groups, left their houses, happy to see him, until the streets were packed. When the sultan saw him, he stood up for him, honoured him effusively and conferred him a tashrīf and talked with him about the ruling over the chief judges. Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī went from the mosque to the madrasa al -ṣāliḥīya, he passed beneath the quarters, crossed the Bāb al-Zuwayla, passed beneath the windows of the mosque and the sultan stood at the window to look at him and many people saw him and their joy augmented, and gave many things to him, saffron for and candles to burn, and braziers for incense and amber, and was sprinkled with rose water. He continued that way until he stopped at the madrasa al-ṣāliḥīya, with the ʾahl al-dawla. Then he went to his house. It was a memorable day and a gathering that had never be seen before.
