Summary
27/11/0862:
The appointment of the sultan’s son to the position of ʾatābak is an offense against common usage, for we haven’t heard of any of the sons of the rulers befalling that. As we have dealt with earlier, the sultan had intended this already on the first day of his sultanate. He had appointed him as ʾatābak and had favored him with a khilʿa, instead of himself. He remained thus for the rest of the day. The following day, that appointment troubled the people. The sultan heard of that and he then set right his faux pas, and removed his son, appointing Tanbak instead. When Tankbak died, at a time when the sky was cloudless for the sultan, he now did what he had intended (for a long time), without anyone contending, without any words or talk.
