وأما الخاصكية فهم الذين يلازمون السلطان فى خلواته ويسوقون المحمل الشريف ويتعينون بكوامل الكفال ومجهزون فى المهمات الشريفة والمتعينون للامرة والمتقربون فى المملكة كان عدتهم فى أيام الملك
الناصر محمد بن قلاوون أربعين خاصكيا ثم ازدادواعلى ذلك حتى صاروا فى أيام الملك الأشرف
برسباى نحو ألف خاصكيا
Summary
As for the khāṣṣakīya, they are the ones who stay with the sultan during his private times. They carry along the august maḥmil, hey are entrusted with bringing the chores/missions to a good end. They are sent on the august missions. They are destined for the amirate, and they are the favourites in the realm. During the reign of al-Malik an-Nāṣir Muḥammad b. Qalāwūn there used to be forty khāṣṣakīyaʾs, then that was augmented, until during the reign of al-ʾAshraf Barsbāy they became about one thousand.
