وفي آخر جمادى الآخرة من السنة وهي سنة تسع وثمانين ورد الخبر على السلطان بأن تيمورلنك صاحب بلاد العجم كبس الأمير قرا محمد صاحب مدينة تبريز وكسره ففر منه قرا محمد في نحو مائتي فارس وتوجه بهم إلى جهة ملطية ونزل هناك ونزل تيمورلنك على آمد.
فاستدعى السلطان القضاة والفقهاء والأمراء وتحدث معهم في أخذ الأوقاف من البلاد بسبب ضعف عسكر مصر فكثر الكلام في ذلك وآل الأمر إلى أنه يأخذ متحصل الأوقاف لسنة وصمم الملك الظاهر على إخراج الجميع للجند ثم رجع عن ذلك ورسم بتجهيز أربعة أمراء من أمراء الألوف بالديار المصرية وهم: الأمير ألطنبغا المعلم أمير سلاح والأمير قردم الحسني رأس نوبة النوب والأمير يونس النوزوزي الدوادار الكبير والأمير سودون باق وسبعة أمراء أخر من أمراء الطبلخانات وعين معهم من أجناد الحلقة ثلاثمائة فارس.
فتجهز الجميع وخرجوا من القاهرة في أول شهر رجب وساروا إلى حلب ونائبها يوم ذاك سودون المظفري وقد وصل الخبر بأن قرا محمدًا واقع ابن تيمورلنك وكسره ورجع إلى بلاده.

In the end 789, the news come to the sultan that Tamerlane (Tīmūrlank), lord of Persia (ṣāḥib bilād al-ʿAjam), attacked amir Qarā Muḥammad, lord of Tabriz (ṣāḥib madīna Tabrīz), and defeated him. Qarā Muḥammad fleed with around 200 horsemen, and went with him toward Malaṭyā. He stopped there, and Tamerlane stopped in ʾĀmid.
The sultan summoned the judges, the fuqahāʾ and the amirs, and discussed with them about taking the ʾawqāf of the provinces, because of the weakness of the army of Egypt. They spoke a lot, and during a long time until he took the annual income of the ʾawqāf and al-malik al-Ẓāhir decided to give everything to he army (al-jund). Then he changed his mind and decided to prepare four amirs of 100 of Egypt, who were amir ʾAlṭunbughā al-Muʿallim, amir of the weapons, amir Qardam al-Ḥasanī, raʾs nawbat al-nuwwab, Yūnus al-Nawrūzī al-dawādār al-kabīr, and Sūdūn Bāq, and 7 amirs of 40, and he assigned them 300 horsemen of the ḥalqa.

Everybody prepared and left Cairo on 1st rajab 789, toward Aleppo. His governor, who was Sūdūn al-Muẓaffarī, received the news that Qarā Muḥammad attacked and defeated Tamerlane, who came back to his country.
