Summary
791 AH, 04/06
In the late afternoon of this day a party of al-Nāṣirī’s forces under command of the eunuch Ṭuqṭāy al-Rūmī al-Ṭashtamurī, amir Buzlār al-ʿUmarī al-Nāṣirī (a daring fighter), and amir ʾAlṭunbughā al-ʾAshrafī, with about 1,500 soldiers, made for the citadel. Amirs Buṭā al-Ṭūlūtamurī al-Ẓāhirī al-Khāṣṣakī, Shakar Bāy al-ʿUthmānī al-Ẓāhirī, Sūdūn Shiqrāq, and my father [Taghrī Birdī], with about 20 mamlūks of the khāṣṣakīya al-ẓāhirīya, marched out and, when they met al-Nāṣirī’s army, in a single attack threw them into disorder, forcing them to flee to Qubbat al-Naṣr. The only loss sustained by them was that of Sūdūn Shiqrāq, who was captured and brought to al-Nāṣirī, and his body halved at the waist. But in this conflict al-Nāṣirī’ did not put to death any other man, either before or after Shiqrāq - that is, in cold blood, though a large number fell on the battlefield.
