Summary
791 AH, 06/06
Sultan al-malik al-Ṣāliḥ (later called al-Manṣūr) Ḥājjī was the son of sultan al-malik al-ʾAshraf Shaʿbān, grandson of amir al-malik al-ʾAmjad Ḥusayn, great-grandson of sultan al-malik al-Manṣūr Qalāʾūn; his genealogy has been given also in the account of his forst reign.
The course of events leading to his return to the throne (as I have narrated before) was as follows: amir Yalbughā al-Nāṣirī and amir Tamurbughā al-ʾAfḍalī (known as Minṭāsh) with their allies had revolted against al-malik al-Ẓāhir Barqūq, and, following the conflicts between then which also I have recounted before, the authority of al-malik al-Ẓāhir had been so reduced that he had gone into hiding and had relinquished his rule over Egypt. Grand Amir Yalbughā al-Nāṣirī having gained possession of the citadel, had been offered the sultanate by his companions (kalama-hu ʾaṣḥābu-hu ʿalā ʾanna-hu yatasalṭana), but he had refused to accept it and had recommended the restoration of al-malik al-Ṣāliḥ because, he said, al-malik al-Ẓāhir Barqūq had deposed al-Ṣāliḥ without cause. He had then summoned the chief amirs (ʾakābir al-ʾumarāʾ) among his friends, including Minṭāsh, Buzlār al-ʿUmarī al-Nāṣirī, and Qarā Damurdāsh al-ʾAḥmadī, and had again suggested to them that al-malik al-Ṣāliḥ be restored, to which suggestion, they had all assented.
