While this was happening, amir ʾAlṭunbughā al-Muʿallim, who was one of he most important of al-Nāṣirī’s khushdāshīya and adherents, led his battalion and mamlūks to Minṭāsh and joined his party; delighted, Minṭāsh assigned to him and to ʾAydakār positions from which to fight al-Nāṣirī. In the meanwhile, also amir Qarā Damurdāsh al-ʾAḥmadī, emir of arms, sent to Minṭāsh to ask permission to offer his submission, but Minṭāsh refused to accede. Next came amir Balūṭ al-Ṣarghitmishī, also one of the most powerful of al-Nāṣirī’s adherents, and one who had fought Minṭāsh several times; and then Jumaq ibn ʾAytamish also arrived and made his apologies, which Minṭāsh accepted. Thus his power increased while al-Nāṣirī’s grew constantly weaker; and when the latter now found himself with a few of his mamlūks and adherents at the gate of the chain and knew that control had passed from the yalbughāwīya to the ʾashrafīya, he regretted the deposition and imprisonment of al-malik al-Ẓāhir - when regret was of no avail.
