فعز عليهم ذلك في الباطن وفطن منطاش بذلك فعاجلهم بأن عمل عليهم مكيدة وهي أنه لما كان يوم الثلاثاء ثاني شهر رمضان من سنة إحدى وتسعين وسبعمائة المذكورة طلب سائر المماليك الظاهرية على أنه ينظر في أمرهم وينفق عليهم ويترضاهم فلما طلعوا إلى القلعة أمر منطاش فأغلق عليهم باب القلعة وقبض على نحو المائتين منهم.

The mamlūks ẓāhirīya were inwardly incensed at this, and Minṭāsh, aware of the fact, anticipated any possible action on their part with a ruse. On Tuesday, Ramaḍān 2, 791, he summoned all the mamlūks ẓāhirīya under the pretext of examining into their case, making a distribution of money among them and satisfying their demands. But when they ascended to the citadel, at Minṭāsh’s order the citadel gate was locked behind them, and about two hundred of them were arrested.
