ووقع الأمير قجماس ابن عم الملك الظاهر في قبضة منطاش ولم يتعوق منطاش واستمر في أثر المنهزمين وهو يظن أن الملك الظاهر أمامه إلى أن وصل إلى دمشق وبها نائبها الأمير جنتمر أخو طاز فقال له منطاش: قد كسرنا الظاهر برقوقاً، وفي الغد يقدم السلطان الملك المنصور، فاخرج إلى لقائه، فمشى ذلك على جنتمر. وأحتار منطاش فيما يفعل في الباطن، ولم يعرف ما حصل بعده للملك المنصور، ومع هذا كله في نفسه أن الملك الظاهر برقوق قد انكسر.

Minṭāsh who had mad a prisoner of al-Ẓāhir’s nephew amir Qajmās, had without delay started in pursuit of al-Ẓāhir’s retreating forces, thinking that al-Ẓāhir was in front of him; and when he arrived at Damascus he said to its viceroy Jantamur ʾAkhū Ṭāz, who was in the city: “We have defeated al-Ẓāhir Barqūq, and tomorrow sultan al-malik al-Manṣūr will arrive; therefore go out to meet him”.Jantamur agreed to this, though Minṭāsh himself was secretly perplexed, for while he had believed that al-Ẓāhir had been defeated, he did not really know what had become of al-malik al-Manṣūr.
