Summary
792 AH, after 04/02
A letter was then brought to Buṭā from al-Ẓāhir by Sayf al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn ʿĪsā al-ʿĀʾidī, directing him to send provisions to him; another letter followed giving details of the battle between him and Minṭāsh, and then still another letter arrived. Nevertheless men’s minds were not yet fully convinced of the return of al-malik al-Ẓāhir to power, nor had all doubt of its certainty been removed. Buṭā himself was afraid that the reports which had come were one of Minṭāsh’s ruses, and he was awaiting an answer to his own letter to al-Ẓāhir. Finally, however, ʾĀqbughā al-Ṭūlūtamurī al-Lakkāsh arrived and went through Cairo wearing a magnificent robe with which al-Ẓāhir had invested him. Now all were finally convinced of al-Ẓāhir’s victory; peace and security were again proclaimed, and the announcement made that anyine who might be the victim of tyranny or coercion should bring his complaints to the door of amir Buṭā.
