Summary
792 AH, 10-13/05
I Jumādā 10. The battalions of the governors and amirs went out from Cairo to al-Raydānīya; this was after amir Quṭlūbughā al-Ṣafawī and his followers had made their submission to the Sultan, and gone to Egypt, as will now be explained. A part of what happened is as follows: Minṭāsh had sent Quṭlūbughā from Damascus on a campaign to besiege the city of Ṣafad; but when he drew near to that city he and a number of those with him acknowledged their allegiance to al-Ẓāhir and proceeded to Cairo. They arrived on I Jumādā 13, when great throngs gathered to see them. Following their entrance into Cairo a report came by post that Minṭāsh, when he heard of the defection of al-Ṣafawī, had arrested amir Jantamur ʾAkhū Ṭāz, governor of Syria (who was the most important of his adherents); Jantamur’s son; his ʾustādār ʾAlṭunbughā; amir ʾAḥmad ibn Jirjī; amir ʾAḥmad ibn Qujuq; Qunushbughā al-Manjakī, governor of Baʿalbak; cadi Shihāb al-Dīn ʾAḥmad ibn ʿUmar al-Qurashī, Shafiite chief cadi of Damascus; and a number of other amirs and prominent men. In the meanwhile, parties of Minṭāsh’s followers were continually arriving at Cairo.
