A report arrived at Cairo by post in the meanwhile that the Syrian forces had reached ʿAyn Tāb, from which Minṭāsh had fled in the direction of Marʿash, and that a large number of his followers had deserted him and acknowledged the sovereignty of al-Ẓāhir.
