ثمّ شكا رجل على القاضي شهاب الدين القرشي إلى السلطان فأحضره السلطان من السجن وادّعى عليه غريمه بمالٍ له في قِبَله ودعاوٍ شنيعة فأمر به السلطان فضُرب بالمقارع وسُلّم إلى والي القاهرة ليُخلّص منه مال المدّعِي عليه فضربه الوالي وأهانه وعصّره مراراً ثمّ سجنه بخزانة شمائل

A certain individual then lodged with the Sultan a complaint against judge Shihāb al-Dīn al-Qurashī. When the Sultan had him brought from prison, the complainant charged him with having in his possession property belonging to him, and made additional serious charges. By the Sultan’s orders the judge was cudgeled and handed over to the custody of the wālī of Cairo to recover the property of the complainant. The wālī flogged and maltreated al-Qurashī, and then tortured him with compression of his body several times, after which he imprisoned him also in the Shamāʾil Treasury prison.
