Summary
He had come from his land to go to al-Rūm with Muḥammad Bāk b. Qaramān, who honoured him effusively and entrusted him with the command on three cities: Nakīda, ʾAqsaray, and Dawālū, and all the waqf’s, the supervision and the command of these cities came to him, and he obtained an excessive amount of wealth because of this. After a while he returned to Syria, performed the hajj, then he returned to Jerusalem, where he stayed and where he was appointed as teacher of the Salāḥīya, because of the death of shaykh Shihāb al-Dīn b. al-Hāʾim. When the sultan went to Syria to fight against Nawrūz, he went to him at al-Ramla, and stayed in contact with him after his return to Cairo. Then he was summoned to come to Cairo and he listened to this. He arrived on the mentioned date. What the sultan did with him did not please Nāṣir al-Dīn b. al-Bārizī and his followers, so they took sides against him, out of fear that a mansab would be assigned to him. They got confused because of him and wanted him to be removed. Then they spread the rumour about him to the sultan that he had claimed to have learnt by heart 12000 hadith and the ṣaḥīḥ of Muslim with his ʾisnād. So they asked the sultan to make some time and to gather the shaykhs of Cairo to examine his knowledge of hadith and other things. The ʿulamāʾ gathered the chief judges and al-Harawī was summoned, with shaykh Himām al-Dīn al-ʿAjamī, there was a big dispute between them until shaykh Himām al-Dīn called qāḍī Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī stupid. There were some confusing words until some of them heard that Himām al-Dīn was accused of being an infidel. The meeting did not last long after this and this intensified their enmity. Then, when they descended, they wrote the minutes of the meeting and mentioned in it what happened between them and that Himām al-Dīn had been accused of heresy and the decrease of the right of al-Harawī.This reached the sultan, who became angry with them and ordered Nāṣir al-Dīn b. al-Bārizī to look for reconciliation between them. Al-Bārizī went down to Himām al-Dīn and took al-Harawī with him. He went with both of them to the house of qāḍī Jalāl al-Dīn and they reconciled and the conflict came to an end.
