Obituaries of 819:
On Sunday 22/01 the ʾustādār of my father, amir wazīr Shihāb al-Dīn ʾAḥmad b. al-Ḥājj ʿUmar Ibn Quṭayna died. He was employed in the households of the amirs, and was in my father’s service for several years. Then he was appointed as wazīr during the reign of al-Nāṣir Faraj,in the year 802, for less than a week, then he was dismissed and returned to be the ʾustādār of my father. At the same time he exercised some functions in a number of districts. He was accounted among the prominent Egyptians.
