Amir Ḥusayn b. ʾAḥmad, called Taghrī Birmish, the nāʾib of Aleppo, died by decapitation in Aleppo on Sunday the 17th Dhu l-Ḥijja. Originally this Taghrī Birmish was from the city of Bahasnā. He and his brother -who was the oldest- fled from Bahasnā for Tīmūr Lank and after some years both came to Egypt. His brother Ḥasan served with amir Qarā Sunqur al-Ẓāhirī, while this Ḥusayn sat with one of the tailors at the maṣnaʿ below the Citadel. Then he also transferred to the khidma of Qarā Sunqur because of his beauty. From Qarā Sunqur he transferred to amir ʾĪnāl Ḥaṭab al-ʿAlāʾī. With him he became one of his kuttābīya mamluks until ʾĪnāl Ḥaṭab died. Then his dawādār amir Fāris took him and brought him to (my) father, who was one of the executors of ʾĪnāl Ḥaṭab. My father took him and made him an ʾinī of his mamluk Shāhīn, the ʾamīr ʾākhūr. Shāhīn put him in the barrack and gave him the name Taghrī Birmish. Then my father brought out for him a horse and a robe, together with a group of other mamluks, and made him jamdār. This lasted until my father was entrusted the niyāba of Damascus, an office in which he died. This Taghrī Birmish corrupted 2 of my father’s mamluks. He took them and fled to Tripoli. Until today, one of them is still alive. He’s a royal mamluk also named Taghrī Birmish, al-Ṣaghīr. Their report reached my father and he ordered to write to amir Jānim, the nāʾib of Tripoli, to arrest all 3 of them and send them to him in chains. Their aghā Shāhīn, the ʾamīr ʾākhūr, feared them to be beaten and maltreated and so he asked my father that he would go to them and arrest them (himself) and bring them. And so my father decreed.
