Summary
... Shāhīn headed to them and found them in a hall in Tripoli. He descended from his horse and entered upon them, not taking them seriously. Immediately when their sight fell upon him, Tagrī Birmish al-Ṣaghīr and Yūnus fled. Taghrī Birmish jumped up to flee as well but Shāhīn caught up with him. So he drew his sword and struck Shāhīn with it, thereby killing him. Then he fled. Amir Jānim, the nāʾib of Tripoli, wrote a report on the incident and sent it to my father, together with the report were Yūnus and Taghrī Birmish al-Ṣaghīr. Taghrī Birmish fled and my father ordered to fetch this Taghrī Birmish and to hang him. But my father was preoccupied with his fatal illness and died shortly afterwards. Then this Taghrī Birmish went into the service of amir Ṭawkh al-Ẓāhirī Barqūq, who was called Ṭawkh Baṭṭīkh, the nāʾib of Aleppo. He was advanced by him and became his raʾs nawba. Then he went into the service of dawādār Jaqmaq al-ʾArghūn Shāwī and became his raʾs nawba as well. At the end of his days he became his dawādār. Jaqmaq had another dawādār, called ʾĪnāl al-Ḥimār. Jaqmaq used to say: “my one dawādār is an ass, my other is a bull”. Later on Taghrī Birmish’ fortune walked with those of his race. The reason was that when his ʾustādh Jaqmaq was defeated in Damascus, he went to one of the Syrian citadels and fortified (himself) there until he was descended and killed, by a ruse of this Taghrī Birmish. Ṭaṭar granted him an amirate of 10. Then al-Malik al-ʾAshraf made him an amir of 40 and nāʾib qalʿa in Cairo. Then he granted him a taqdīmat ʾalf in 827. Then he made him nāʾib ghayba in Egypt when he traveled to ʾĀmid. Then he made him ʾamīr ʾākhūr kabīr after amir Jaqmaq al-ʿAlāʾī, because of his transfer to the ʾimrat silāḥ.
