وفى يوم الخميس الثالث من رجب، خلع السلطان على الشيخ، على الدين على الرومى واستقر شيخ مدرسته، التى بناها برأس الحريريين ـ كما ذكرنا ـ ونزل إليها وكان أجلاس مليح، وحضر فيه من أعيان القاهرة، من القضاة وغيرهم، وخطب خطبة متضمنة مدح السلطان، ثم شرع فى التكلم فى قوله تعالى إنما يعمر مساجد الله من آمن بالله الآية، وكان الشيخ المذكور، قد قدم إلى القاهرة، يوم السبت الثامن والعشرين من جمادى الآخرة، وكان قدومه من البحر الملح، ركبه من العلائية التى على ساحل البحر، وطلع إلى دمياط فى سبعة أيام، ولما قدم، أقبل إليه السلطان إقبالا جيدا، ثم توالت عليه نعمه وإحسانه، وخلع عليه مرات متعددة، وأنعم عليه فى رمضان قمحا وسكرا وذهبا، ثم سفره إلى الحجاز الشريف، وأعطى له هجينا، ومائة وخمسين دينارا ـ والذى حصل له أيام الملك الأشرف برسباى ما حصل لأحد قبله من الدول الماضية، إلا أن يكون فى أيام الملك الأشرف شعبان، رحمه الله.

The sultan bestowed a robe of honour upon al-Shaykh ʿAlī al-Dīn ʿAlī al-Rūmī. He was appointed shaykh of his madrasa, which was built at Raʾs Ḥarīrīyīn, as we mentioned. He arrived there. There where lovely seats for him and some of the ʾaʿyān of Cairo, the judges and the like, were present. He made an elaborate speech, glorifying the sultan. He then began to speak His exalted words “Only he who believes in God, fills his mosques”, the verse. The aforementioned shaykh had arrived in Cairo on Saturday 28/06, from the Mediterranean. He left from al-ʿAlāʾīya on the coast. He travelled to Damietta for 7 days. When he arrived, the sultan received him with great attention. He was granted his favors and his offerings. He was bestowed upon a robe of honour numerous times. And he was offered wheat, sweets and gold. He then traveled to the Ḥijāz and was given a half-breed and 150 dīnār. No one before him experienced what he has in the days of al-Malik al-ʾAshraf Barsbāy in previous rules, except in the days of al-Malik al-ʾAshraf Shaʿbān, God have mercy upon him.
