Summary
02/0861:
Qadi l-qudat Sirāj al-Dīn ʿUmar b. Mūsā al-Ḥimṣī al-Shāfiī passed away in 02/0861 as a baṭṭāl. He was aged over 80. He was born and raised in Ḥimṣ, where he studied. He then came to Cairo and attended the lectures of al-Sirāj al-Bulqīnī. He was a nāʾib ḥukm of his father, qadi l-qudat Jalāl al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, for many years. Then, he was appointed as qadi of al-Wajh al-Qiblī. Following, he was transferred to the office of qadi of Tripoli, then of Aleppo and then of Damascus, (being transferred among these offices) more than once. He nominated himself for the office of qadi of the Egyptian domains and that of its kātib sirr, but that didn’t happen. By the end of his life, he was appointed as mudarris at the Maqām al-ʾImām al-Shāfiʿī. He was then removed from that office, and was removed to the Syrian domains, where he died. He knew by heart some of the furūʿ of his madhhab, and has written some relatively good poetry. He was the one who had composed the dowry (ode) (ṣadāq) of my sister, when she married qadi l-qudat Jalāl al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī, which consisted of 300 verses.
God have mercy upon him!
