Qadi Zayn al-Dīn ʾAbū l-ʿAdl Qāsim, son of qadi l-qudat Jalāl al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, son of shaykh al-ʾislām Sirāj al-Dīn al-Bulqīnī al-Shāfiʿī, passed away on Sunday, 21/10/0861, aged in his seventies. He was raised under the care of his father, yet his study had been only moderate. He was a nāʾib ḥukm for some years, and was appointed as nāẓir al-jawālī. He was generous, which made him poverty-stricken by the end of his life and necessitated taking him debts and depending on men. So his conditions were as the following had put it (al-sarīʿ):
How often kindness had made the generous poor,
And he has lived among nobles in the lowliest role.
So tighten the loops on your wealth, preserve it,
To be stingy is better than to beg the dole of the miser!
