The first of the eleven niyābas of the mamlaka of Aleppo, which are inside the Syrian borders, belonging to the military wālīs al-ʾumūr. It used to be called Qalʿat ar-Rūm. Its nāʾib usually is a muqaddam ʾalf, appointed by the sultanic gates with a marsūm sharīf.
