Wednesday 11 rajab 788, amir Jārkas al-Khalīlī, amir of the stable, went down to the madrasa al-ẓāhiriyya (the aforementioned) after his completion, and he brought there food, sweets and fruits.

Thursday, the day after, the sultan rode and went down from the citadel with his amirs and khāṣṣakiyya to the mentionned madrasa, where the judges and the notables of the state had assembled. A great table has been set, one end at the miḥrāb, the other end at the basin in the middle of the madrasa. And the sultan, the judges, the amirs, and the mamluks ate. Then, the rests were taken by the people. Then the table of sweets and fruits was set. And the basin (that was in the courtyard of the madrasa) has been fulled with alcoholic beverages. Then after the removal of the table, the sultan gave robes to the shaykh ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Sayrāmī al-Ḥanafī, who the sultan brought along from the orient, and appointed him as professor (mudarris) of the ḥanafiyya and shaykh al-ṣūfiyya, and amir Jārkas al-Khalīlī set for him the carpet, so that he seated on it. The the sultan gave a robe to amir Jārkas al-Khalīlī responsible for the construction of the madrasa (shādd ʿimārat al-madrasa), and to the master (muʿallim) Shihāb al-Dīn Aḥmad ibn al-Ṭūlūnī the engineer (al-muhandis), and they both rode horses with golden “qumāsh”. Then the sultan gave robes to fifteen mamluks of Jārkas al-Khalīlī, who managed the work with their master. And he gave to each of them 500 dirhams. Then the sultan gave robes to the managers of the construction. And when the shaykh ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn al-Sayrāmī seated on the carpet, he said His exalted words: the verse “Say: Lord, Sovereign of all sovereignty” (III,26). The the lecturer recited then [verses] of the Coran, and preached. The sultan stood, and rode with his amirs and his khāṣṣakiyya and went back to the citadel after he left by Bāb Zuwayla. And that day was a witnessed ceremony.
