Minṭāsh passed the eve of Tuesday, Shaʿbān 17, at the gate of the mosque of sultan Ḥasan, while those assisting al-Nāṣirī continued to shoot down upon him. In the meanwhile the ẓāhirī mamlūks were coming to Minṭāsh from every side, joining him when, having asked them what they desired, he promised to fulfill their wishes. This continued until Tuesday morning, by which time his followers had increased in number to more than a thousand horsemen.
While all this had been happening al-Nāṣirī had been paying but little attention to Minṭāsh, and had been making his own preparations leisurely, for he did not have a high opinion of Minṭāsh; his followers, however, urged him to hasten to attack Minṭāsh, and warned him of the danger of negligence.
Minṭāsh’s position was indeed constantly improving and his strength increasing through the accession one after the other of the mamlūks of the amirs who were out of service, as well as of others; but strong as was his position now in comparison with what it had been at first, it still could not be compared with that of the followers and mamlūks of al-Nāṣirī
