When Ḥusayn ibn al-Kūrānī wālī of Cairo saw that al-Nāṣirī’s power was ebbing, he became apprehensive for his own welfare and went into hiding. Minṭāsh then summoned Nāṣir al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Laylā, Ibn Kūrānī’s deputy (nāʾib), made him wālī of Cairo, and charged him with the task of collecting arrows for him. Muḥammad immediatly went down to the city, and brought back to him a large number of them. Then at Minṭāsh’s order he made a proclamation of public security and tranquillity, announcing the abolition of taxes, and ordering prayers to be said for the victory of Great Amir Minṭāsh.
