وفيه ألزم منطاش سائر مباشري الديوان السلطاني وجميع الدواوين بأن يحمل كل واحد خمسمائة درهم وفرساً، وقرر ذلك على الوظائف لا على الأشخاص، حتى من كان له عشرة وظائف في عدة دواوين يحمل عن كل وظيفة خمسمائة درهم وفرساً، فنزل بالناس ما لم يعهدوه، فتوزعوا ذلك فجاء جملة الخيل التي أخذت من المباشرين خيلاً وعيناً ألف فرس.

On the same say, Minṭāsh imposed upon each official in the sultan’s bureau as well as in all other bureaus a contribution of 500 dirhams and a horse each; this contribution was assessed upon their offices, not upon the individuals themselves, so that if one individual held ten positions in various bureaus he was required to bring for each position 500 dirhams and a horse. Though they found this an unprecedented hardship they all made their contributions; the number of horses taken from the officials, or bought with the cash contributions, was a thousand
