Summary
793 AH,18/08
On the same day the Sultan designated amir Kumushbughā al-Ḥamawī al-Yalbughāwī to be interim viceroy, and ordered amir Sūdūn al-Fakhrī al-Shaykhūnī al-nāʾib to move into the Citadel; both he and amir Bajās al-Nawrūzī did so. The Sultan ordered also that 600 mamlūks should be stationed in the Citadel under command of Taghrī Birdī al-Bashbughāwī al-Ẓāhirī, raʾs nawba (I mean my father), and the eunuch amir Ṣawāb al-Saʿdī Shankal, commander of the Sultan’s mamlūks. The amirs designated to be stationed in Cairo were Quṭlūbughā al-Ṣafawī, great chamberlain; Batkhāṣ al-Sūdūnī, second chamberlain; Qadīd al-Qalamṭāwī, third chamberlain and amir of 40; Ṭaghāy Tamur Bāshā, a chamberlain; Qarā Bughā, also a chamberlain; and a number of amirs of 10. Ordered to accompany the Sultan on the expedition together with the four Chief Judges were Shaykh Sirāj al-Dīn ʿUmar al-Bulqīnī; Chief Judge Badr al-Dīn ibn ʾAbī l-Baqāʾ(who was not then in office); Judge Badr al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Faḍl Allāh (who had been removed from the office of kātib al-sirr); the judges of the army; and the jurisconsult of the court of justice (muftī dār al-ʿadl). They accordingly made their preparations for the journey.
