The sultanate of al-Malik al-Ẓāhir ʾAbū Naṣr Yilbāy al-ʾĪnālī al-Muʾayyadī over Egypt

He is the 39th sultan of the rulers of the Turks and their offspring, and the 14th of the Circassians and their offspring. He became sultan at the end of Saturday 10/03/0872, some 3 degrees by the hourglass before sunset.
The reason why (his enthronement) was delayed until that time was the fact that, when al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Khushqadam died, after the call to the Noon Prayer on Saturday 10/03/0872, the aforementioned ʾatābak Yilbāy and all amirs ascended to the citadel, and before they started discussing the appointment of a (new) sultan, they started preparing (the body of) al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Khushqadam, prayed over it, washed it, took it out, prayed over it again at the Bāb al-Qalla, and took it down to bury it at the late sultan’s madrasa, which he had built in al-Ṣaḥrāʾ, close ot the Qubbat al-Naṣr.
I attended his funeral, while none of the ʾaʿyān of the amirs attended, except for a number of small number, as was mentioned before.
All this went against custom, for custom had it that first somebody was made sultan, and then they started preparing (the body of) the late sultan.
