Summary
When the fighting took place between the ʾaṣḥāb of Yashbak and the qalʿīyūn, Yashbak himself held back from the fight, and never mounted. Rather, he was watching for the sultan to descend to him.
In the meantime, the fighting between the two farīqs continued in the streets of al-Ṣalība throughout the day, and a large number of both farīqs were killed. As the people saw that Yashbak held himself back from the fighting, they thought that that was due to him being uncapable of withstanding the qalʿīyūn. Because of that, many people deserted him, something that was coincident with the agreement of the Ẓāhirīya kibār and the julbān in the citadel.
