He left for Mecca, and lived there in 863. I too was staying in Mecca that year, and there the friendship (ṣuḥba) between him and me was strengthened, and we had conversations and conferences (muḥāḍarāt wa mujālasāt). He stayed in Mecca, until al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Khushqadam became sultan in 865. He came to Cairo, and al-Malik al-Ẓāhir showed him honor, held him in even higher esteem (than he did before), and made him sit above a large number of ʾaʿyān amirs 100.
On Monday 31/12/865, he favored him with an amirate 100, instead of Jānibak al-ʾAshrafī al-Mushidd, as the latter had been seized. That day, he favored him with a khilʿa, and appointed him as raʾs nawba nuwab, instead of Baybars al-ʾAshrafī, the uncle of al-Malik al-ʿAzīz Yūsuf, as the latter had been seized as well.
He remained in that position, until al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Khushqadam removed ʾatābak Jarbāsh to the harbour of Damietta as baṭṭāl. Instead of him, amir Qānim the ʾamīr majlis, was appointed as ʾatābak. Al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Timurbughā was transferred to the position of ʾamīr majlis, instead of Qānim. This happened in 09/869.
He remained ʾamīr majlis, until al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Khushqadam died on 10/04/0872, and al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Yilbāy became sultan. Al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Timurbughā then became ʾatābak al-ʿasākir, instead of al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Yilbāy. At that point, everybody was convinced (taḥaqqaqa) that the power would (eventually) come to Timurbughā. Thus it happened, as was mentioned before. Let us now return to the events, the discussion of which we had promised.
