ʾAmīr kabīr Sayf al-Dīn Damurdāsh b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Muḥammadī al-Ẓāhirī was killed in the prison of Alexandria, on Saturday 18/01. Damurdāsh had been one of the ʾaʿyān of the mamluks of al-Ẓāhir Barqūq and had been promoted in the days of his ʾustādh until he was appointed ʾatābak of Damascus, then as nāʾib of Hama, then as nāʾib of Tripoli. Then Barqūq arrested and imprisoned him for a short time and released him after the intercession of my father, when he was appointed as nāʾib of Aleppo. Then he was appointed by al-Ẓāhir as ʾatābak al-ʿasākir in Aleppo. Then he was transferred for the second time to be nāʾib of Hama, then he was transferred to become nāʾib of Aleppo, after the conflict with Tanam al-Ḥasanī, the nāʾib of Damascus. Timūr Lank came to Syria during the time that he was nāʾib. Then he revolted, with my father, and after that many things, battles and misfortunes happened to him -that we already mentioned in the chapter on al-Malik al-Nāṣir Faraj and then on that of al-Muʾayyad Shaykh. The end of all of this is that he became ʾatābak al-ʿasākir of Egypt, after my father. Then he became nāʾib of Damascus, also after him, because of his death. Then he fled from al-Malik al-Nāṣir, when he was besieged in Damascus, to the region of Aleppo, and remained there until the rebellion of Nawrūz. Qurqmās Sayyidī al-Kabīr, his nephew was appointed as nāʾib of Damascus, in replacement of Nawrūz. Al-Malik al-Muʾayyad summoned him and he came to him by sea, while Qurqmās had returned to Egypt before him. Al-Malik al-Muʾayyad arrested both of them and sent also someone to arrest his nephew Taghrī Birdī Sayyidī al-Ṣaghīr at Ṣāliḥīyat Bilbais, saying: “These are supporters of Nawrūz”. Sayyidī al-Ṣaghīr was killed at the day of the ʿĪd al-Fiṭr of 816. Then his brother Qurqmās Sayyidī al-Kabīr was killed, in the prison of Alexandria and their uncle was left until this day to be killed. The story of Damurdāsh has already been mentioned before, what makes a second mention here needless.
