On Sunday 18/02/0859, amir Yashbak b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Nāṣirī, an amir 40 and raʾs nawba thānī, passed away, aged almost 70. He was originally a mamluk of al-Nāṣir Faraj. After the death of his ʾustādh, he had served at the gates of the amirs. His fortune declined, until he returned to the sultan’s khidma, following the death of al-Malik al-Muʾayyad Shaykh, and became a khāṣṣakī. He remained in that position until he was made an amir 10 in the beginning of the rule of sultan al-Malik al-Ẓāhir Jaqmaq, and a raʾs nawba. He remained in that position until al-Malik al-Manṣūr ʿUthmān transferred him to the position of amir 40, after the transfer of Jānibak al-Qaramānī to the amirate of 40 of amir Yūnus al-ʾAqbāʾī, the mushidd, as the latter had been transferred to an amirate of 100. During the reign of al-Malik al-ʾAshraf ʾĪnāl, he became raʾs nawba thānī, and remained in that position until he died on the aforementioned date. Yashbak was one of the evils of his age, was (not worthy in matters of) the world or worship, nor was he (wise by) either disposition or by acquisition. God pardon us and him!
