He was originally from al-Bīra in the Bilād al-Shām.
He was a son of ʾAḥmad b. Muḥammad al-Bīrī and ʾukht Shams al-Dīn ʿAbd Allāh b. Bahlūl. He was a brother of Shams al-Dīn al-Bīrī. He was patronized by al-Shaykh ʿAlī, Bajās al-Nawrūzī, Taghrī Birdī al-Bashbughāwī and Yalbughā al-Sālimī. He was ṣāḥib of Saʿd al-Dīn b. Ghurāb. He was ṣāḥib (=) of Qujājaq al-Ẓāhirī.
He was ʾustādār (ʾamīr) and ʾustādār for the sultan (807-?), wazīr (809-12), nāẓir khāṣṣ 809-12), kāshif Wajh Baḥrī (809-12) and nāẓir jaysh (?-?) in Egypt.
He was arrested in 812 by order of al-Nāṣir Faraj, detained in the citadel of Cairo, tortured and eventually executed.
