He is of Circassian origin.
He was taken from his land and purchased by the khwājā ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn.
He was then taken to Cairo with his older brother, Ṭūkh.
ʾĪnāl’s name was not ʾĪnāl before, but it was fixed thus (later).
Al-malik al-ẓāhir Barqūq bought the two slaves of the khwājā around 99. He manumitted Ṭūkh, while ʾĪnāl remained a kuttābī in the ṭabaqat al-Zimām, until he was purchased by al-malik al-nāṣir Faraj bin Barqūq.
The latter manumitted him and issued horses to him, as was the custom.
ʾĪnāl was one of Faraj’s mamālīk sulṭānīya until, by the end of Faraj’s reign, he became a khāṣṣakī.
He remained thus until, during the reign of al-malik al-Muẓaffar (ʾAḥmad), the ʾamīr kabīr Ṭatar granted him the position of ʾamīr of ten, in the beginning of the year 24 that is.
Then he was transferred to the position of ʾamīr ṭablkhānā, in the beginning of the reign of al-ʾashraf Barsbāy in 825.
Then, when Qānī Bāy al-ʾAbūbakrī al-Bahlawān was transferred to the position of muqaddam ʾalf, he became thānī raʾs nawbat al-nuwab.
Then he was transferred to the position of nāʾib of Ghazza, after the removal of amir Timrāz al-Qurmishī and after his coming to the Egyptian domains. This was on Wednesday 28/10/831.
He was the nāʾib of Ghazza until he travelled, toghether with al-malik al-ʾashraf Barsbāy, to ʾĀmid in 836.
When al-ʾashraf returned from ʾĀmid and halted in the city of al-Ruhāʾ, which he had conquered and which was in ruins, he wanted to appoint ʾĪnāl as nāʾib of al-Ruhāʾ.
The latter refused, threw down his sword, and used rude language towards him.
The sultan became fumed with anger, but all he could do was to ask his mamlūk Qarājā, the shādd al-sharāb khānah, and to bestow upon him the position of nāʾib of al-Ruhāʾ, saying, ‘As for me, my commands are followed by none but my own mamlūks’.
The mawkib having ended, ʾĪnāl went to his camp. He regretted what he had done, and feared for its concequences. Hence, he submitted.
In the afternoon, the sultan summoned him, and bestowed upon him *ʾaṭlasayni mutammarā (Popper: double robe of watered satin), and he promised him that he would help him with weapons, fodder etc. He also bestowed upon him the position of ʾamīr of 100 in the Egyptian domains, in addition to his being nāʾib of al-Ruhāʾ, instead of Jānibak al-Ḥamzāwī, who had been appointed as the nāʾib of Ghazza in his stead.
When ʾĪnāl left (from his meeting with the sultan), his face had changed colour.
He stayed nāʾib of al-Ruhāʾ, until al-ʾashraf removed him from that post in favor of ʾamīr Shādibak al-Jakamī, the thānī ra’s nawbat, on Tuesday 27/10/37. The sultan summoned him to Cairo with the position of ʾamīr of 100, the ʾiqṭāʿ that he had in addition to the position of nāʾib of al-Ruhāʾ.
He stayed in Egypt until, on Thursday 10/07/840, the sultan bestowed upon him the position of nāʾib of Ṣafad, after the removal of ʾamīr Yūnus al-Ruknī al-ʾAʿwar from it.
He then stayed in Ṣafad until, in 843, al-malik al-ẓāhir Jaqmaq summoned him and bestowed upon him the position of ʾamīr of 100 in the Egyptian domains in Ṣafar 843, Qānī Bāy al-Bahlawān, the ātābak of Damascus , governing Ṣafad in his stead.
ʾĪnāl came to Cairo on Saturday 13/02. He remained in Cairo as one of the ʾamīrs of 100, until al-malik al-ẓāhir Jaqmaq transferred him to the position of dawādār kabīr, after the death of Taghrī Birdī al-Baklamashī al-Muʾadhī, on Thursday 13/ 06/46.
He was the dawādār until al-ẓāhir transferred him to the position of ātābak al-ʿasākir in the Egyptian domains in one jump, after the death of the ʾatābak Yashbak al-Sūdūnī al-Mushidd, in 847.
He stayed ʾatābak until al-ẓāhir Jaqmaq died, and his son al-manṣūr ʿUthmān assumed power after him.
We have already discussed the fitna that occurred between him and al-manṣūr, and that ended with the deposition of al-manṣūr and ʾĪnāl’s becoming sultan, as we already mentioned at the beginning of this biography.
Now the account of his origin has ended. Let us now return to where we had left our account of his taking a seat in the castle, after removing the khilʿat al-salṭana
